Ice Safety Measures

As colder temperatures and snow storms are finally rolling in, ice is often left behind on sidewalks, stairs, and driveways. Freezing rain storms can also lead to formation of black ice. The risk of slipping and falling in these areas presents a real issue. Here are some precautions and steps you can take to reduce your risk of falling and injuring yourself.
- Walk slowly in areas that may have ice. Keep in mind that black ice is extremely hard to see.
- Use caution when getting in and out of vehicles. Use the vehicle for balance if necessary.
- Watch for slippery floors when entering buildings. Alert building maintenance if you observe areas of ice formation.
- Avoid carrying items. If you do begin to slip or fall, you want your hands free for balance and to break your fall if necessary.
